BJ stands for Bob Jarvis... the man to talk to about anything 4WD, because we
are the 4WD specialists! We provide personalised and prompt service along with
great customer support - a combination that can't be beaten! We provide a
same-day service to our Otago, Canterbury and Southland customers, and
overnight service to the rest of New Zealand. We also provide an international
service. Through our commitment, experience, and expertise BJ Autos has
established a business relationship with our customers that will last a lifetime!
HISTORY
BJ Autos was founded in 1970 - it was then named Green Island Auto Wreckers.
The company mainly dismantled cars and 4WDs, supplying parts within the local
area. Business slowly spread throughout New Zealand and overseas, supplying
Government Departments and The NZ Army. We started manufacturing fibreglass
panels for 4WD and Utes, and began reconditioning parts, motors, gearboxes, diffs,
driveshafts and winches.
About 1980 we started importing new parts. In 1987 we shifted to Kaikorai
Valley Road, Dunedin, which became the New Parts, Reconditioning Workshop
and Vehicle Sales. Green Island Auto Wreckers was sold in 1989. In 1990 we
bought the franchise Ball-Aire and started repairing suspension and steering parts.
We also became an Independent Distributor for PROMA Performance Products,
stocking the full range of fuel and oil treatments, grease and vehicle care
products.
In 1993 we resumed dismantling 4WDs at the Kaikorai Valley yard. We started
importing vehicles plus accessories. New parts for Toyota Landcruisers and Hilux
are sourced from Japan, England, Taiwan and Australia. Complete Deisel Repowers
are undertaken in our workshop.
In 2000 we started importing quad trucks from dealers in New Zealand and Japan.
The trucks soon took off and with that we started parts and accessories.
